Sapphires shine in real-life Aboriginal story

Chris O'Dowd was told by officials at the Cannes Film Festival to stop dancing on the red carpet ahead of the screening of his new film, The Sapphires, earlier this year.

But he had something to celebrate, as the film won a 10-minute standing ovation at the festival and landed a distribution deal with producer Harvey Weinstein.

The feel-good Australian film - based on the true story of an Aboriginal girl group on a tour in the midst of the Vietnam war - is now set to open in the UK.

It is director Wayne Blair's feature film debut and stars an ensemble cast including Deborah Mailman, Jessica Mauboy, Shari Sebbens and Miranda Tapsell.
