The apprentices who help make the Royal Opera House work

The Royal Opera House in London has a successful apprenticeship scheme which has been offering opportunities to young people who want to work in the arts since 2007.

Former apprentices have gone on to a range of related jobs, including work at the Sydney Opera House and the London Olympics.

The scheme has just secured funding from the Derek Butler Trust to enable it to continue for another 10 years.

BBC News spoke to some of the apprentices who work at the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden and its production workshop in Thurrock.
