BBC abandons £100m digital project

The BBC is to abandon a £98m digital production system, after BBC chief Tony Hall said it had "wasted a huge amount of licence fee payers' money".

The Digital Media Initiative (DMI), which was launched in 2008, was temporarily halted last autumn.

Lord Hall, director general of the BBC, said an independent review had been set up "to find out what went wrong and what lessons can be learned".
