Are working-class young people 'priced out' of acting?

The actor David Morrissey has joined Dame Judi Dench in saying people from poorer backgrounds are being priced out of their profession.

In an interview with the Radio Times, he says those with money have more opportunities because they can work for free, unlike those from poorer backgrounds.

Actor Will Mellor told BBC Breakfast that he grew up on a council estate and is proud of it - saying his background has shaped who he is as an actor.

Mark Hudson from the Manchester School of Acting said that people from all backgrounds can be great actors, but that he believes the lack of repertory theatre is also holding actors back.
