'Bubble boy' gene therapy pioneer Rhys Evans turns 10

The first child in the UK to receive ground-breaking gene therapy has celebrated his tenth birthday.

Before he was a year old, Rhys spent weeks in intensive care, and months in a sterile "bubble" at London's Great Ormond Street Hospital.

He had a rare condition preventing him from developing an immune system, which was treated by adding a correctly-functioning version of the single mutated gene.

His mother Marie Evans and Professor Adrian Thrasher, who conducted the pioneering treatment, joined Rhys on BBC Breakfast.
