People to be 'nudged' into good health by government

The government has set out proposals to try and 'nudge' people into leading healthier lifestyles.

Local authorities will play a key role in providing incentives and schemes to improve health and fitness.

Schools, employers, the food and drink industry and communities themselves are also being urged to do their bit to make the nation healthier.

Setting out the public health white paper in the House of Commons, Health Secretary Andrew Lansley said "rather than nannying people we will nudge them...to make healthier lifestyles easier".
