Ministers defend their handling of the winter flu outbreak

Ministers have defended their handling of the winter flu outbreak in response to criticism from Labour, who claimed the under-fives had been excluded from the vaccination programme to save money.

But the health secretary, Andrew Lansley, insisted that he had followed expert advice and that the flu jab was aimed at those most at risk - including pregnant women and the elderly.
