Social care reforms urged ahead of cross-party talks

Cross-party talks about overhauling care and support for the elderly and disabled in England will begin on Tuesday, with campaigners urging politicians to consider major change.

Similar talks broke down acrimoniously before the 2010 election and the charity Age UK has warned that the opportunity to instigate reforms must not be lost again.

To coincide with the start of the talks, it has released the results of a poll of more than 1,700 adults, which was carried out by YouGov. It showed that 81% believed the government should do more to support the care needs of the elderly.

Branwen Jeffreys reports.
