Lansley: 'Smoking should not be the norm'

Health Secretary Andrew Lansley has spoken out in defence of the government's strategy to try and reduce smoking in the UK.

Speaking to the BBC, Mr Lansley said: "We want to arrive at a place where we no longer see smoking as a normal part of life".

His comments came as a ban on tobacco displays is came into force in England.

The ban will apply only to large shops and supermarkets, with smaller outlets given an exemption until 2015.
