Time-lapse embryo imaging 'improves IVF'

Time-lapse imaging of early embryos can improve the success rate of IVF according to British research.

Scientists at the CARE fertility group say the technique, which involves taking thousands of images of the developing embryo, can improve birth rates by 56%.

The study, published in Reproductive BioMedicine Online, used the method to select embryos at "low risk" of chromosome abnormalities.

But other researchers say that while time-lapse imaging is exciting, the study is too small to be definitive.
