Healthcare regulator CQC 'may have covered up failings'

A cover-up by England's NHS regulator after a series of baby deaths at a Cumbria hospital was "unacceptable", the Health Secretary said on Wednesday.

Bereaved parents were left appalled by the revelations that the Care Quality Commission had concealed knowledge of its own failings in its investigation.

The CQC Chairman said that the organisation had been "dysfunctional" and that he was "desperately sorry".
