A&E bailout targeted at struggling organisations

Struggling A&E units in England are to be given a £500m bailout over the next two years to ensure waiting times are kept under control.

The Department of Health said the money would be sourced from its own efficiency savings programme and will be deployed in front line NHS services such as A&E units and better access to GPs.

Dame Barbara Hakin, Deputy Chief Executive of NHS England, says the funding boost needs to be part of a short, medium and long term approach to solve the problems in urgent care.
