Childhood drinking a 'serious' problem

Hospitals are treating an increasing number of children for the effects of drinking alcohol, according to figures obtained by the BBC.

Last year, 300 children aged 11 or under had treatment - an increase of one third on the previous year.

Professor Ian Gilmore, who chairs the UK Alcohol Health Alliance, says childhood drinking is a ''serious'' growing trend.
