Chief nursing officer: 'Staffing numbers alone not enough'

England's chief nursing officer has told the BBC that publishing staffing numbers on individual wards will help give patients confidence in the care that they are receiving.

From April patients will be able to see the numbers on a new national safety website, as part of the government's response to the public inquiry into the Stafford Hospital scandal.

But Jane Cummings said that staffing numbers were vital, but staff also needed to be given support to provide good care.
