Hospitals prepare for a winter rush

Hospitals in England face growing pressure from an increasing number of elderly people being treated as emergency cases, according to the Care Quality Commission.

Its annual report, published on Thursday, says there are more than half a million avoidable cases of elderly patients being admitted to hospital each year.

Branwen Jeffreys has been to an A&E department in Barnsley to see how they are getting ready to cope with the pressure of winter.
