Weight loss surgery: Up to two million could benefit

Up to two million people in England could be eligible for weight loss surgery according to a new study.

Nearly 8,000 NHS operations were performed last year and the researchers say that given the benefits of the treatment, many more could be done.

Bariatric surgery, such as the fitting of gastric bands, can cut the risk of death from obesity-related problems such as heart disease and diabetes.
