The ageing process: What happens to our noses over time?

As we get older our noses appear to grow over time - something reportedly more noticeable in men.

But whether this actually happens or whether it is a result of general stretching and sagging as skin loses its elasticity is still not entirely clear.

Several scientists, including those involved in facial reconstruction surgery are looking into this phenomenon to see whether the tissues of the nose hold properties that make it continue to grow.

This video, from a 1998 BBC documentary The Human Body: As Time Goes By, illustrates how noses change over time.
