Mother refused treatment for unborn baby to save twin

A mother from South Wales refused life-saving treatment for one of her unborn twins in order to save the other.

Dwynwen Davies's daughter Martha contracted the slapped cheek syndrome virus, which is minor for children but can have serious consequences for unborn babies.

The 30-year-old was offered a blood transfusion to the womb to save Martha, but she refused as the procedure could have killed healthy twin Cadi.

Martha died at 28 weeks.

Ms Davies told BBC Radio 5 live's Breakfast: "It's so sad that I've lost a baby because of lack of information of and knowledge about this virus."
