Most patients visiting A&E need to be there, study shows

Hospital consultants have cast doubt on suggestions that many people are going to accident and emergency departments unnecessarily.

The College of Emergency Medicine says the vast majority of people attending Casualty units do need urgent hospital care.

Last year NHS England suggested 25% of patients could have been treated in the community, and used that to justify a major shake-up of A&E units.
