New staffing rules for A&E nurses in England

Accident and emergency departments in England should have one nurse for every four patients, according to new guidelines.

The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) also says major trauma or cardiac arrest cases need two nurses.

The guidance, which will now be consulted on, aims to ensure departments can provide safe care to patients.

Branwen Jeffreys reports.
