Fiddler on the Roof turns 50

Fiddler on the Roof may take place in a Russian shtetl, but the show is an American classic.

The story of Tevye the dairyman trying to cling to tradition in the face of headstrong daughters, anti-Semitism and the inevitability of the future has been delighting theatre-goers for generations.

Fifty years after the show first opened in Detroit, Michigan, it is getting a re-staging in Washington DC.

Jane O'Brien visited the Arena Stage to discuss the play's impact and try out some of the show's memorable choreography.
