Gerard Way on breaking away from My Chemical Romance

This weekend, former My Chemical Romance frontman Gerard Way made his global debut at Reading and Leeds festivals.

Speaking to Newsbeat in his dressing room at Leeds Festival, the 37-year-old said: "It is different, the main thing is I am just happier."

He added that going solo has nothing to do with his band mates, despite rumours of trouble amongst them.

"It had everything to do with what I was a part of," he explained. "I was very unhappy because I was resisting moving on with my life, so I am extremely happy."

Way was speaking to Newsbeat's music reporter Sinead Garvan, the interview was filmed and produced by Steve Holden.
