Blackberry boss defends messenger's role in riots

Stephen Bates, managing director of Blackberry maker Research In Motion, has given evidence to the Commons home affairs committee about the role the BlackBerry Messenger (BBM) played in the civil unrest across England last month.

Mr Bates claimed that the majority of BBM users abided by the law during the riots, adding that in many instances social media was used as a "force for good."
