F1 tech helping sick children

At first glance critically-ill children and Formula 1 racing cars have little in common.

But the science used to assess a car's performance on the track is now being used to monitor children in the intensive care ward of Birmingham Children's Hospital.

It is the first time such a system has been adapted for use on humans.

Dr Heather Duncan, a consultant in paediatric intensive care, explained how the technology is helping patients like Damian Singh, who is making a good recovery after a cardiac arrest.
