Consumer Electronics Show: Electric roller skates 'save time'

A French inventor has unveiled what he is claiming is a "personal transportation system" at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.

The Rollkers look like electric roller skates and aim to give the same sensation as so-called airport travelators, allowing users to walk twice as fast as normal, around 10 kph (6.2 mph).

While still a first prototype, its inventor, Paul Chavand hopes to have perfected the shoes within two years, making them smaller, light and with an in-built stabilisation system.

The BBC's North America technology correspondent Richard Taylor reports.
