Rory faces Apple Pay teething troubles

Apple has expanded its mobile payment service to the UK.

The initiative allows iPhone and Apple Watch owners to make in-store purchases using the devices, charging the sale to a chosen debit or credit card.

The idea is that Apple Pay users will be able to leave their wallets at home.

Samsung and Google are set to rollout rival services for Android devices, and there are alternative "digital wallet" schemes already available - although demand has been limited.

The BBC's technology correspondent Rory Cellan-Jones tried out Apple's platform on the morning of its UK launch and experienced problems when trying to buy a cup of coffee.
