Pope addresses bishops on 'shameful abuse' by priests

Pope Benedict XVI has said that the child abuse scandal affecting the Catholic Church seriously undermines the moral credibility of church leaders.

In remarks made at St Mary's College in Oscott, the pontiff returned to the issue of what he called the "shameful abuse" of children by priests.

The Pope visited the college to meet trainee priests and Catholic bishops from England, Wales and Scotland.
