Students clash with police during tuition fee demonstration

Thousands of students have clashed with police at Westminster during a mass demonstration against plans to increase university tuition fees in England.

Some protesters converged on the building where the Conservative Party has its offices setting fire to placards and smashing windows.

Up to 14 people have been taken to hospital and a number of police officers have been injured.

The National Union of Students has condemned the violence as "despicable", saying a small minority of demonstrators hijacked the march.

Tom Symonds reports.
