Kabul 'safer for children than many Western cities'

NATO's most senior civilian official in Afghanistan has said the capital, Kabul, is probably less dangerous for children than London, Glasgow or New York.

Mark Sedwill said most children go about their lives in safety, despite the continued fighting against the Taliban.

But his remarks have drawn criticism from aid organisations. Save The Children said Afghanistan was the worst place on earth to be a child - with one in four dying before the age of five.
