'Phenomenal' train fare rise criticised by Passenger Focus

Rail fares have gone up by an average of 6.2%. The rise is 3% above the current rate of inflation.

Train bosses have said the increase will result in more trains and better services, and are in line with government policy.

Ashwin Kumar, director of Passenger Focus, said some increases, such as the fare from Canterbury to London, were ''phenomenal''.

He added some people are still ''not satisfied '' with value for money on train journeys.
