Hague defends plans to evacuate Britons from Libya

The first UK government charter flight to assist the evacuation of Britons stranded in Libya has been delayed due to 'technical problems'.

It comes as criticism mounts that the Foreign Office has been slow to help British nationals in the country.

The Foreign Secretary William Hague has cancelled a trip to the United States and defended the government's response, saying the foreign office has "given people the best information it had at the time".

Mr Hague told the BBC that the government was now working on contingency plans to evacuate Britons in desert camps who are unable to reach the airports.
