Night-time protest clashes in Trafalgar Square

Protesters and police have clashed in Trafalgar Square at the end of a day of protests in London against government cuts.

More than 250,000 people attended a march and rally in central London against public spending cuts earlier.

The march passed off mainly peacfully; however small groups attacked shops and banks with a stand-off in Piccadilly.
