Lib Dem David Laws to be suspended over expenses claims

The Liberal Democrat David Laws apologised to fellow MPs for serious breaches of the expenses rules, and he will be suspended from parliament for seven days.

It comes after the Commons Standards Committee found he had wrongly claimed tens of thousands of pounds in rent, money he has now repaid.

The Prime Minister, David Cameron, and Deputy PM, Nick Clegg, have expressed support for Mr Laws, potentially leaving the door open for him to return to government in the future.

James Landale reports.
