President Obama's first day of UK state visit

US President Barack Obama is completing the first day of his state visit to the UK by attending a banquet hosted by the Queen at Buckingham Palace.

Earlier in the day the president and his wife joined the Queen at Buckingham Palace where they briefly met the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge before moving to the palace gardens for a ceremonial welcome, including a 41-gun salute.

The couple also visited Westminster Abbey, where they laid a wreath on the Tomb of the Unknown Warrior, as Nicholas Witchell reports.
