David Cameron says Libya action was 'legal and right'

The Prime Minister David Cameron has said that Britain's decision to support the Libyan rebels has been proven "necessary, legal and right".

There have been scenes of jubilation throughout in the Libyan capital Tripoli, as rebel forces took control of parts of the city.

Heavy fighting has been reported around Colonel Gaddafi's compound and there are reports of tanks in the streets around that area.

Two of the Libyan leader's sons have been captured, but his whereabouts are unknown.

Speaking outside 10 Downing Street, Mr Cameron said it was now up to the Libyans to shape their future.
