Unions announce strike ballot 'unprecedented in scale'

Unions representing millions of public sector workers have announced they are to ballot their members for strike action in a continuing row over pensions.

Unison, Unite, the GMB and the Fire Brigades Union have all given notice of strike ballots with the possibility of walk-outs by the end of November.

Dave Prentis, the leader of Unison, said the ballot would be 'unprecedented in scale' and that the stakes are higher than ever before.

The BBC's Ben Wright reports.
