M5 crash emergency teams 'working tirelessly'

Avon and Somerset Police have confirmed that "several" people have died in a crash involving 27 vehicles on the M5 in Somerset.

About 35 people have been wounded and firefighters have been working to release people still trapped in their vehicles.

Assistant Chief Constable Anthony Bangham said the motorway would remain closed for up to 24 hours so "we can investigate this very serious matter very thoroughly".

He asked people worried about friends and relatives to try contacting them by all available means before using the emergency helpline on 0800 092 0410.
