Student protests in London 'mainly peaceful'

Thousands of students have marched through central London and the City to protest against higher tuition fees for English students and plans for more competition in universities.

The police were out in force with 4,000 officers on duty, after the violence that broke out during a student protest last year.

About 20 arrests were made but the event has been mostly peaceful.
