Weak retail spending sees pre-Christmas sales

Time was when shoppers would have to wait until Boxing Day to get a bargain at the sales, but this year many shops are offering big discounts before Christmas.

The latest survey from the British Retail Consortium says spending on the High Street is at its weakest for six months.
