Police cannot prove Dowler messages deleted

The Metropolitan Police have said they have evidence to suggest teenage murder victim Milly Dowler's phone was hacked after she went missing in 2002, but they may never know for certain if voicemail messages were then deleted.

Giving evidence to the Leveson Inquiry into press standards, a barrister for the Metropolitan Police, Neil Garnham QC, read a witness statement from Detective Chief Inspector John MacDonald.
