Jeremy Hunt: James Murdoch texts had no impact on bid

Jeremy Hunt has told the Leveson Inquiry he saw no problem with the contact he had with James Murdoch during News Corp's bid to take over BSkyB.

When asked whether he was comfortable with the conversations he had with the former chairman of BSkyB during the attempted take over, the culture secretary said he believed that a "courteous reply to a text message was fine" since "it had absolutely no impact on the process".

However, he admitted with hindsight "I think I wouldn't take the same view and I would just avoid all text messages".
