UK in 'threat' to Ecuador to arrest Julian Assange

Ecuador has accused the UK government of threatening to enter its embassy in London to arrest Wikileaks' Julian Assange, ahead of an announcement on his request for political asylum.

Mr Assange took refuge at the embassy in June to avoid extradition to Sweden, where he faces questioning over assault and rape claims, which he denies.

Ecuador's foreign minister, Ricardo Patino, also said a decision on the 41-year-old's asylum bid had been made and would be revealed on Thursday.

The Foreign Office said it could revoke the embassy's diplomatic status. Julie Peacock reports.
