BBC boss George Entwistle: Savile abuse claims are 'awful'

The director general of the BBC has said an internal examination of allegations of sexual abuse by the late TV presenter Sir Jimmy Savile will be carried out - but only once the police investigation is over.

The corporation is coming under increasing pressure to hold a formal inquiry.
