Newsnight boss 'asked to step aside because of blog'

BBC director general George Entwistle has said he asked Newsnight editor Peter Rippon to step aside because of inaccuracies in his blog and to give him a chance to prepare properly for the Pollard Review.

The review will look at whether there were any failings in the BBC's management of the Newsnight investigation in to allegations of sexual abuse against the late TV presenter Jimmy Savile.

Mr Entwistle's comments came as he took questions from MP at the Commons culture committee.
