Sadiq Khan: Probation plans are a 'recipe for disaster'

The Shadow justice minister, Sadiq Khan has said that government plans for an overhaul of the probation service in England and Wales could be a 'recipe for disaster' if things go wrong.

The plans will see low-risk offenders supervised by the private sector.

Justice Secretary Chris Grayling will unveil plans to let security firms and voluntary groups manage probation on a "payment by results" basis.

But Mr Khan doesn't believe this is the right solution.
