Will rehab work after prison life?

This week BBC Radio 4's The World at One programme is looking at the criminal justice scheme in England and Wales.

Half of all the people who end up in prison go on to commit another crime.

To prevent this the government has said that a rehabilitation revolution is needed.

It has promised that all offenders will be met by a mentor at the prison gate, and has opened up probation to charities and the private sector.

Presenter Martha Kearney begins the series with a report from Wormwood Scrubs prison in West London.

Prisoners have not been named following advice from the Ministry of Justice.
