Legal aid cuts in England and Wales come into force

Cuts to legal aid in England and Wales came into effect on Monday, removing funding from entire areas of civil law including family cases, advice on social welfare benefits, debt and housing problems.

The government says it will save £350m from a £2.1bn budget.

The Law Society, which represents solicitors, has warned that people may start "taking the law into their own hands" as a result of the changes.
