Goal-line technology is 'progress'

The Premier League is likely to approve goal-line technology on Thursday, which would do for football what Hawk-Eye has done for tennis.

Simon Barnes, chief sports writer of The Times, said: "If the technology is there you might as well use it.

"The football goal is the highest currency in all of sport, it's a subject that you want to get right. Particularly at the elite level where the stakes are so high."

"Disputes are not going to happen every match, but a goal is a huge deal. This is progress."

First broadcast on the Today programme on Thursday 11 April.
