Boat accident: Praise for man who leapt on boat

Police are trying to establish what caused six people to be thrown from a speedboat off Padstow in north Cornwall, killing an 8-year-old girl and her father.

Senior BSkyB executive Nicholas Milligan, 51, and his eight-year-old daughter have been named as the victims.

Four other family members, thought to have been hit by the boat, are in hospital with serious injuries.

The vessel was stopped after a local waterskiing instructor jumped on board.

Matt Pavitt, North Cornwall Coastguard, who was on duty when the accident happened, said many locals played an important part in the aftermath of the incident.
