Tax breaks to be offered to shale gas companies

"The world's most generous tax incentives" have been announced for companies which exploit the UK's deposits of shale gas through fracking.

The Treasury's incentive scheme could see the tax payable on the income from shale gas deposits more than halved, from 63% to 30%.

But opponents are furious about the proposals, saying the practice can lead to contaminated water supplies and even earth tremors.

John Moylan reports.
